Summer holidays coming....more uniform.

The holidays are nearly here so I guess its time to get the uniform ready for the new term!!! I am sure the shops are making us buy uniform earlier than normal, just like Christmas, which now starts in September!!!Anyhow... I want to get it done then I can forget about it and enjoy the hols (I really don't want to panic about it a week before the kids go back).

This year I have Dan going to a new school, so complete uniform needed there. Flossie starting school, so complete uniform for her too (on another note her PE kit that vanished from nursery for 5 weeks re-appeared 2 days before the end of the school year). A few new jumpers and replacement cardigans, polo shirts, pinafore and trousers are needed. We only lost one cardigan this year so I class that as an excellent result. New shoes for everyone (5 pairs which is one less than last year as Josh will be at college) so that means a trip to Bicester village for Clark's shoes. We find its a great way to save money. I can literally get a pair of shoes free by doing this, so it is well worth the trip down there. We have found that as its pretty busy at the weekend, an after work midweek trip works best. The kids think its a bit of an adventure, I can sell it to them all day as a trip out...its only John that loses out having been at work all day but even he appreciates its worth it for the savings.

I have created a uniform wardrobe at home dedicated just for uniform. I was so fed up with going room to room putting it away that I decided to keep it all in one place. We converted an Ikea Trofast unit and it works a treat, plus it saves me time. The guys know where to get their stuff from and where to put it back as well. If I had more space, I definitely would have a family wardrobe which would be amazing...I don't dream of luxury cars or holidays, a good storage system will do me!!

We are very lucky where we live. We have some beautiful walks and parks to keep us entertained. Parks are the saviour of the Summer holidays. Pack up a few drinks and snacks and head off. We have a list of parks on our summer plan that we want like to go to and here in our second week we have crossed off the first one, Cropthorne park. This park holds a little special in my heart, in fact the whole area evokes many childhood memories for me. My Fathers family came from one of the local nearby villages and as such I spent many a weekend visiting relatives here when I was young. Before we moved to our present home, we were very interested in moving to this area, unfortunately, we couldn't find the right house for the right price. I do however, still aspire to live there and maybe one day I will. Couple this with my Dad being buried in the next village and the area will keep on drawing me back. Home schooling Day 1

How was it for you??? For us it went surprisingly well. I used my set structure to base our learning and I think for us structure is the key. Our school day is planned and I think at this difficult time, structure is something we all require. So, how did it go...well, firstly we started with an old favourite...spellings. Cover, write, repeat, you all know the drill. We also used our spellings in a sentence. And just like school, Friday will be our test day. Next, we logically moved onto English. My older boys had work set from school, while the girls, desperate to use their new notebooks, started with a letter to me, to tell me what they enjoyed at school, what they found a little troublesome (careful not to use the word difficult) and lastly what they would like to improve on. I thought this would give me an insight into how they feel about school and help me to encourage them when they need it and what to give extra help with. We're all back to school now, the Summer hols seem like a distant memory....I could cry about that, I love the holidays......so its time to get back in the swing of organizing. Yaaayyy!!!!!! And I think I've found a little way to help out. Sunday morning. This can be your best friend when it comes to saving you time and money for the school or work lunch boxes for the week ahead. An hours work here could be a real saving. An extra pair of hands...what I wouldn't give for those!!! This post is about 3 items that I know you can make in about an hour, pop in the freezer and get them out, as and when you need them each day.
