Portugal...Portugreat

We have recently returned from a truly fantastic week in Portugal. This is the first time Florence and Emilia have flown. After nearly missing the flight due to road closures and re-enacting the airport running scene from Home Alone we managed to make the flight. The two youngest girls were great on board. We took plenty of snacks, lots of talking to Flossie about what was happening, a little play with my phone and she was all good. The excitement and novelty of the journey, which lasted 2 1/2 hours, was enough to sustain Flossie's interest. Emilia was more than happy with a bottle and a snooze...wouldn't we all.
Thankfully the transport was waiting for us at Faro airport, just a 40 minute transfer to the Villa. And, wow what a Villa. Four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a brilliant pool, and my dream Veranhda. I would so love this back home. Somewhere to eat, relax and chat, whatever the weather...so want one!! Its one of the reasons I chose this Villa.
From the minute we arrived, the kids were straight in the pool, and that is pretty much were they wanted to stay. Florence has grown so much in confidence in the water. They played a crocodile game and it is definitely her favourite, she makes great crocodile noises!!! Josh and Daniel did some night swimming, when all the little ones were in bed. The water was so warm.
We didn't eat out every night. We used the bbq there, which has rekindled our love of charcoal...sorry gas barbie but I think you are on your way out. The food here has been gorgeous. Seafood Cataplana, juicy piri piri Frango (Chicken), spicy sausages, village bread, slow cooked pork ribs....blimey I could go on and on. We just all lapped it up. We got into a highly addictive routine of having after noon tea. Doughnuts or Pao de lo cake, which was as light as air, or chocolate dipped jammy dodgers...everything freshly made and so so delicious.
One morning we walked down to Santa Eulalia beach. Lovely rocky scenery but with a beautiful sandy beach. It was quite busy, so we walked along until we found a relatively quiet part, with no sun beds. The waves were rolling in and the kids loved jumping them. I took one of my favourite pictures of the holiday here. Whilst not everyone loves the beach, I felt we had to go and I am glad we did, it was well worth the long walk.
Uno proved a big success before bedtime. I love how it brings the competitiveness out of everyone, even the big ones who pretend they aren't that interested. Those funny memories stay with you.
Emilia slept really well. She completely ditched all signs of her usual routine and just went with the flow. She loved the pool but only for about 10-15 minutes maximum, after that she always seemed ready for a nap.
I am pleased the Villa had a pool table and table tennis set. Frequently used by the older males in our family, although I have been know to play a bit of pool (not very well I might add).
So, would we come here again? Definitely. The location and the Villa was great. The temperature, friendliness of the local people, the food, excellent, we really couldn't have asked for more...well maybe another week more. What would I do differently? Bring baked beans for our cooked breakfast, I couldn't find any to start off with, and they are far cheaper back home. Also, it would have been nice to see more of the local area but I guess had we had a few more days then we would have achieved this. I guess we will just have to make sure that our next visit is for a little longer. Xx
